I’ve been blessed to work with new clients on several voiceover projects. One particular VO that was very cool to work on was for the WNBA’s Indiana Fever TV Campaign! Happy new year!
Boy o’ boy 2020 was one of heck of year for everyone. My mantra for 2020 was Rebirth, Revelations and Relationships and it manifested in unexpected ways. The biggest highlight was being given the gift of gratitude and balance. Much of this year was used being of service which was my Rebirth. I never would have thought in a million years I would help families across the world plan and facilitate virtual funerals but it has challenged me in a way that nothing I ever done has. Doing this work was needed so that it could peel away some layers and shift my mindset. This year, I’m looking forward to continuing my creative pursuits and expanding my reach as a life coach helping other creatives to unearth their gifts while tapping into my 2021 mantra of Synchronicity, Standards and Stability.

We have now begun our last and final quarter of the year in 2020. Hopefully, this last quarter will bring more clarity to whats uncertain and closure to things thats been proven to be of no benefit.
Thankfully, September was a busy month gaining more voiceover and parts modeling clients. I also have begun a new gig as a virtual producer. In addition, the work I’ve been doing planning and facilitating virtual funerals has continue to be impactful.

SEPTEMBER 2020
So much has happened in our world these last several months. From the pandemic to the protests, its providing us the 20/20 vision we need as a nation to fight for equality.
During the pandemic, I took on an unexpected opportunity through my life coaching as a planner and facilitator for virtual funerals. Taking on this task is allowing me to connect with families in a meaningful and purposeful way, broaden my scope as a life coach and expand my virtual skillset.
LIFE COACHING TIP
I’ve decided that I will use my website more to share my life coaching tips. I usually post them on social media but I feel using my website will allow me to be more detailed. So, with that being said, if you follow me on Instagram @MusesofMonet, you know that Mantras and Goals are very important for me. Last year, I came up with my 2020 Mantra of Rebirth, Revelations and Relationships. I then wrote out themes/goals for each month that tie into my mantra. For the month of September the theme is Recalibrate The Spirit. Life is constantly moving, especially given what is happening in our world now so be sure to stop and do a temperature check on your spirit. Recalibrating your spirit is essential for when we later enter into our fourth and final quarter of the year. Below are my past themes.
January - Awareness (Third Eye Open)
February- Purging
March - Manifestation
April - Adjusting
May - Pivoting with Purpose
June - Invest in Your Space
July - Abundance
August - Action
September - Recalibrate The Spirit

NOIRE NOMAD BOUTIK & FIVER VOICEOVER
Under my venture, Noire Nomad Boutik, the first custom/commission handowoven and textile print portrait was sold! The portrait arrived straight from Ghana and was created by Ghanaian artist, Kwesi Sackey. The customer Sherri wanted a portrait that represented 4 different generations of men in her family. The piece is called “Grandfathers Legacy”. The artist Kwesi and I came up with concept and he did a great job executing it!
I had the pleasure of doing a voiceover that released this month for a new client, The Fiver Foundation. Its an organization that makes a 10 year commitment to empower children through summer and year round, out of school programs. View it below.
2019 OVERVIEW
From starting a new business to public speaking and more, below is an overview of 2019.
Noire Nomad Boutik - My first trip overseas to Ghana inspired me to go back again and create a new business . In August, I went to Ghana again during the Chale Wote Festival for 10 days but this time it was to create relationships with the local artisans and craftsman. I tend to dive in head first into things so it was definitely a trip that stretched me and challenged me. The outcome is Noire Nomad Boutik. I hope to expand and grow in 2020. For art, headwraps and jewelry head to to Noire Nomad Boutk
Loreal’s Biolage - This summer I had the opportunity to be a model for Loreal’s Biolage new plant based henna hair color. I really wanted to do something different to my hair this year so this opportunity to spruce up my look, came at the perfect time.
Speaker Panelists - Its been a while since I have done public speaking so it was great to get back out there and be a part of panels of substance and empowerment. The first panel was in Ghana during the Chale Wote festival and the second panel was in the fall for a womens empowerment workshop. Being a part of these panels reminded me that I have a voice and I need to take on more speaking engagements in 2020.
New voiceover clients: As a freelancer/creative entrepreneur, acquiring new clients is such a blessing. This year I was able to do voiceovers for Microsoft, FTC (Federal Trade Commission , Boston Medical, BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) , Planned Parenthood, Michigan Transfer Network, Great Circle, PsychHub, Fiver Childrens Foundation, Christiana Care and Anthem. JANUARY & FEBRUARY 2019 - FIRST TRIP OVERSEAS TO AFRICA, FASHION WEEK, SALLY HANSEN CAMPAIGN AND MORE.
New Client Alerts: You never know who is looking at your work!! I received offers this month to be the voice for companies Microsoft, Great Circle and MySykes. I just reached a year this month having my voice over buisness and I’m thankful that the seeds I planted are sprouting. Since I’m still a newbie in this business, I have to audition first for a client before they would like to move forward with me or not so its a blessing when you don’t have to audition and are chosen based off of previous work you have done.
Below is a radio ad that is playing througout Missouri for Great Circle which is a behavioral health organization.
FASHION WEEK
Taking in the mellow energy backstage before the Fashion Week frenzy began. This season, I worked backstage dressing models for 4 shows which were Ulla Johnson, Self Portrait, Anna Sui and Li Ning

BACKSTAGE DRESSER FOR ALEXANDER WANG’S “COLLECTION 2” RUNWAY SHOW
SEPTEMBER 2018 - audition 101, fASHION WEEK, and fossil campaign
AUDITION 101 : DONT GET ATTACHED
This month, I had quite a few auditions and callbacks for various acting roles. There were a couple of callbacks that I hoped to book however I didn’t. This month really reinforced to me that you can not get attached to roles that you audition for. You should look at every audition as an experience to showcase your talents. Nothing more, nothing less. Overtime, you will realize and become confident in knowing that what is for you, is for you. — On to the next one!
FASHION WEEK - #DRESSERLIFE
This month I worked my 10th season of Fashion Week as a dresser. For those that dont know, a dresser works backstage and is responsible for dressing the models and checks to make sure the garments are worn properly before they walk onto the runway. This season, I worked 5 shows which were Anna Sui, Sally Lapointe , Mansur Gavriel, Milly by Michelle Smith, and Ulla Johnson.
FOSSIL CAMPAIGN
I did a fun shoot this month for Fossil watches. I was modeling for their new mood watch which was an ode to the 90’s. Check out the images below
SUMMER 2018 - MOVING, UNSPOKEN WEBSERIES, hbo random acts of flyness, AND FIRST BLACK HAND MODEL.
This summer was jammed pack with personal and professional experiences. The highlight of my summer was definitely moving into my own place here in New York. It’s something that I’ve worked hard towards for a long time. Also, this summer made me more conscious about being better with self care. Living in New York your constantly on your grind—especially when your self employed because everyday your looking to cultivate and create more opportunities for yourself. Therefore, it can be easy to forget about taking care of yourself. Self Care for me is saying NO to certain opportunities, expressing myself more effectively about how I feel to others, dancing, getting my ends trimmed (natural hair ain’t no joke), reading, pedicures/foot massages, praying and journaling. Your mental and physical health is your WEALTH. The state of your well-being plays a paramount role in how you maneuver through life.
UNSPOKEN WEBSERIES: episodes 4, 5, 6
The remainder of season 2 ended this summer. If you haven't already, be sure to catch up on episodes 4, 5, and 6 below and if you haven't seen episodes 1 - 3 check out my previous post. Be sure to comment and let us know how you feel about the series.
HBO'S RANDOM ACTS OF FLYNESS
This past February, I submitted to do background work for a show called Random Acts of Flyness. Unbeknownst to me, I got FEATURED in the episode!!! While on set, I had the opportunity to witness Whoopi Goldberg and her comedic genius. Also, not only was the cast predominately people of color but so was the crew. Its awesome to see the landscape of TV changing to hire more people of color in front of and behind the camera.
There are different vignettes compiled into this episode. Much of it addresses sexual assault/abuse. If you dont have HBO, make sure to get a free month trial to check out the series which airs on Saturdays at midnight.
FIRST BLACK HAND MODEL FOR CND COLLECTION
This week, I did a shoot for CND nail polish. I went to their casting the week before and thankfully I got booked. The set up of their shoot was very reminiscent of how Fashion Week is backstage. Co-Founder, Jen Arnold and her team are so creative and it was great to see their concepts come to life. While on set, one of the manicurists mentioned that I'm the first black HAND MODEL they have hired to do a FULL collection! I was like whaaattttttt??!!! I was booked to do their Spring 2019 collection and I cant wait for you all to see the colors and designs next year!
may 2018 - Unspoken webseries ep. 1, 2, & 3
I’m a part of a webseries called Unspoken and it premiered its 2nd season this month. Thus far, episodes 2 and 3 are my favs! Check out my character Simone Coleman and the rest of my cast mates in episodes 1 - 3 below. Be sure to subscribe to our Youtube channel so that you can stay up to date on the remaining episodes.
APRIL 2018 - PROJECT TRAILERS: Unspoken & the klein syndicate
You know the old saying goes, April showers bring May flowers, well in my case, March showers brought April flowers. April was definitely a month of many blooming opportunities that I hope will continue on throughout the year. Last month I spoke of mental fortitude and how imperative it is to look at obstacles as a way to build character. If you currently find yourself in a rut--do not give up. You seriously never know what tomorrow will bring. Now on to some entertaining stuff!
This month, 2 trailers released of projects that I'm a part of of. The first trailer is of the dramedy Unspoken. Season 2 will be premiering May 4th on Youtube and you will see more of my naive, funny, sweet yet annoying at times, bible thumping character Simone Coleman. Be sure to follow us on Instagram at @Unspoken_Webseries and subscribe to our Youtube channel.
The second trailer is of a project that I was a part of called The Klein Syndicate. The 60 minute drama is based on the true story of 80's drug lord, Calvin "Klein" Bacote. In this production, I portray a police officer that has an encounter with you young Calvin. You can read more about the project on IMDB -->> https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8302358/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_1
MARCH 2018 - MENTAL FORTITUDE, PARTS MODELING, CLIENT REVIEW AND WEBSERIES
MENTAL FORTITUDE
This month was definitely "March Madness" for myself. My mental fortitude was tested and strengthened. Its inevitable that in life you will not be exempt from the curveballs life throws at you but the choices you make on how to deal with them always has a greater impact. The tests that you are faced with is preparing you for the next phase that is to come in your life. These tests are necessary so that you are equipped with the right mental outlook and the know how of how to deal with this next phase. Here are some things that I hope can be of help to you in the process of building your mental fortitude
1. Prayer
2. Communicating and surrounding yourself with people who have your best interest
3. Aromatherapy
4. Inspirational/Self Help Books
5. Journaling
6. Write down a list of all the good things in your life so that you can remind yourself of things you should be grateful for.
PARTS MODELING
This month, I did a few parts modeling shoots for various brands. For those that dont know, parts modeling is a form of modeling that requires you to use body parts such as hands, feet, legs, eyes, lips, etc without showing your face. One of the shoots I did was for skincare brand, Sunday Riley. They have a new foundation line coming out next month. Below are a few pics. Check out more on my parts modeling site www.nychandmodel.com
CLIENT REVIEW AND WEBSERIES
I've been going strong building my voiceover business by utilizing voices.com. I got a review ,on my bday, from a client, for a VO that I did for the Detroit Water and Sewerage Dept ! Also, a webseries that I was a part of called Complexities premiered its latest episodes this month. Check out review and scene from webseries below.
FEBRUARY 2018 - FASHION WEEK AND THEATER
FASHION WEEK
This Fashion Week season, I was blessed to work 5 shows as a backstage dresser. For those that dont know, a dresser’s job is to ensure the appropriate care, fit and styling of garments and assist runway models as needed. When I use to have my blog Ms. Fashionista J several years ago, I would get asked often how can I work at Fashion Week?! Well, here are some tips on how you can go about seeking opportunities.
PRODUCTION - When I first started working fashion week 8 years ago, I was a volunteer for IMG. At this time, Fashion Week was at Bryant Park and I helped set up the tent, backstage, assembled gift bags, etc.
PR – If you have experience in PR or interested in learning about public relations, research different PR companies and see if they have paid and intern opportunities.
TEMP AGENCIES - look into working with temp agencies, especially those that specialize in fashion. There are times they may have freelance/temp opportunities for fashion week from their clients. Some agencies to look into are 24/7, Fourth Floor, and JBC Style.
THEATER LIFE
Last week, I had the opportunity to be a part of a series of one-act plays. Someone who I worked with 3 years ago on a shoot reached out to me to portray his younger sister in the play. I had only 3 days to remember my lines but I was up for the challenge! The name of the play was called Leashes and it dealt with the sibling rivalry between two characters, Bill and Sandra. I had a really great time working with my cast mate and bringing my character Sandra to life! Plus, what I appreciate about theater is that you must be alert—there are no retakes!
Our performances were recordered so I will keep you updated when its posted on Youtube.
January 2018 - VoiceoverS AND MARKETING
This month was very slow which was to be expected but it did not slow me down in making sure that I market the hell out of myself. Much of the month consisted in updating my website, creating reels, creating a new website for my hand modeling -- www.nychandmodel.com , reaching out to more agents, and building my voiceover career! I first started doing voiceovers 2 years ago. This year, I really wanted to take it up a notch so I invested $350 to subscribe to the site Voices.com annually and managed to book my first client through the site. They liked how well I did their commercial so they later told me they also wanted me to do their radio spot! I really like the interface of voices.com. I've auditioned over 200 times while on voices.com this month. The constant auditioning has been a great way for me to truly practice on my craft. I'm striving to book at least 4 VO gigs on the site in February. Check out the commercial I did for my client Alex and Ani and the review they wrote!
